Attendance
Students should be dressed and ready to begin class on time. Classes begin with warm-up so it is very important to be on time to reduce the risk of injury. If a dancer is late for more than 15 minutes they will be asked to observe class to avoid this risk. This is for safety precautions and should not be perceived as punishment. Regular attendance is essential if the student is to progress. Students who miss frequently have a difficult time keeping up and may begin to feel unsuccessful. If a class must be missed, it may be made up in an alternate class during the month in which it was missed. Please notify the desk if your dancer must miss their class.
Attire
FUNdamentals of Dance and Ballet: Pink tights, black leotard and pink canvas or leather ballet shoes. Please leave their skirts at home! Jazz, Modern : leotards and jazz pants or leggings. Shirts and shorts are not to be worn over dancewear. Cover-ups should be worn outside the studio.
Calendar
2024-2025 classes begin Tuesday, September 3, 2024. The studio observes major holidays, i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break. All other holidays and school free days will not disrupt the regularly scheduled classes. If school is canceled due to weather conditions, please call (804)694-5900 or refer to the website to verify cancellation and make-up schedule.
Dance Etiquette
Dance is a disciplined art form and requires that students always exhibit behavior that is respectful and responsible. Students are expected to refrain from talking, give their full attention during class, and ask permission before leaving class. Hair must be off the neck, away from the face and secured. Dancers in all ballet and FUNdamentals classes must have their hair in a bun. All food and gum will remain outside the studio. Please leave jewelry at home… it is distracting and catches on clothing.
Parking
Ample space is available in the parking lot facing the front studio entrance.
Student Health
Parent’s signature on the Enrollment Application denotes that their child/children are physically, emotionally, and mentally able to fully participate in all dance activities.
Tuition
Tuition is based on a 35-week year and is due and payable on the first of each month. All accounts not paid by the seventh of the month will be charged a $5.00 late fee. Tuition is non-refundable and will not be reduced for missed classes. Makeup classes are available so check with the receptionist. Payment may be made by cash or checks only. Checks may be mailed to PO Box 217, Topping, VA 23169. Returned checks incur a $50 fee.
Report of Progress
A Report of Progress is scheduled once a year in which family and friends of our students are invited to the studios to observe classes. This is an opportunity for your child to perform their newly acquired skills, and for you to share in their dance experience. Attendance is strongly encouraged, and cameras are welcome.
Observation
Parents of our young FUNdamentals students may escort their dancer to the studio and observe from the door for a limited amount of time and return to the lobby to wait. If there is an issue they may return for a few more minutes. The area is very small and to not cause distractions in class it is necessary that we manage the observations in this way. Please speak with the receptionist to arrange to observe.
Recital
Recitals are scheduled on an every other year basis due to the amount of class time required for preparation and the additional costs to families. On alternate years the students will present A Spring Demonstration for families and friends at the Cobbs Creek Arts Center. Our next recital is scheduled for the spring of 2026.
